'Springtime on the Gunpowder', mural commissioned for the Sparks Nature Center, MD.
This mural and diorama (using taxidermied birds and animals and collected weathered wood, leaves, plants, bones, nests, etc.) was created and installed by me in the MD Dept of Natural Resources educational building. Unfortunately, the old Sparks Bank building was later partially submerged by the rising Gunpowder River during a heavy rain storm. The building has since undergone extensive repair and added storm deterrent measures. The mural is still there, waiting for the time that visitors are once again welcomed inside. |
'Baltimore's CrabTown Crab Sculpture Project'
Several years ago I was commissioned by Balto. City, along with several dozen other artists, to envision and complete the painting and transformation of 2 large fiberglass crabs. For one of these, I chose a message of the importance of farmland preservation to help protect our environment and the waters of the Chesapeake Bay. The other crab, with the help of local school children who worked with me, became a giant Lemon and Peppermint Stick Crab; the body was the 'lemon' and the legs became 'peppermint sticks'. |
This confection is not only the official Baltimore City Flower Festival treat, but is also the unofficial-official Annual Spoutwood MayDay Fairie Festival (www.spoutwood.org) faerie food. Fae and mortals alike come from miles away to try this traditional Baltimore delicacy!
As far as I know, this sweet crab was residing on the playground of a local private school near the city. The Land Preservation crab was purchased by a local business corporation. |
'Usher the Jack Russel Terrier Pup', color pencil on paper. I enjoy drawing animals so creating pet portraits is especially fun for me: capturing the spirit of each individual is a challenge so I like to take my time in photographing them, sometimes having to return for multiple shoots until I have the perfect image and expression to use as guidance. |
